Voice

The voice is an instrument we all carry with us. Learning to coordinate the breath with an aligned posture and develop natural resonance allows us to sing powerfully, expressively, and in what ever style we choose.

Technique is applied to the individual needs of each student with careful attention to their age, ability, and previous singing experience.

Exercises are designed to give each student a set of tools they can use to apply to their own song repertoire, ready themselves for auditions and performance, and keep their voice healthy.

Song preparation is keyed to the level of each student.

I teach professional adult students, intermediate and advanced middle and high school students, and beginning students of all ages.

For the high school student whose goal is to continue vocal studies at the college level, I teach lyric diction (French, Italian, German, English) and prepare the serious voice student for the college entrance audition and to meet the requirements of repertoire (e.g., French Melodie, German Lieder, American Art Song, Italian Art Song) for college or conservatory placement.

Stage deportment and audition preparation is included in my private voice instruction for any students who are ready to audition at the local level. This includes musical theater productions, school productions, acapella groups, ensembles, regional choirs, church choirs, and voice competitions at the local, regional and national, and international level. I have helped students to successfully achieve positions in all of these performing arenas.

Above all, students of mine are carefully guided and supported in repertoire choices that maximize the natural and healthy development of their voice at every level of development.

Styles range from pop and rock to musical theater, opera, classical, oratorio, jazz, gospel, Hawaiian, Zarzuela.

Private students already studying with Dana can take advantage of weekly group classes.

Here, the student enriches their musical experience and gains valuable performance opportunities in a fun collaborative environment.

Applied theory, history and relevance of music periods and styles are introduced, using individual student’s repertoire.

These Saturday performance classes are designed to support the serious student.

Please talk to me if you think you or your child may be ready to participate.

A basic proficiency in piano is valuable for any aspiring vocalist or instrumentalist.

I gear my piano instruction to the individual level and temperament of the student.

My students learn to hear through a series of ear-training and musicianship exercises that are an important part of a developing musician’s education and training.

In the individual lesson we focus on musicianship, theory, and technique. Pieces studied can include a wide range of genres, periods and styles, including Classical, Pop, Rock, and Jazz.
